BA/BS in BIOLOGIJA (2017)

This undergraduate academic programme in biology at the University of Montenegro is organised over six semesters. Its outcomes describe graduates who can explain the links between structure, function and processes from the level of molecules and cells up to organisms, populations, communities and ecosystems. They are expected to explain the main cell processes of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, to understand the morphology, anatomy, histology and physiology of plants, animals and humans, and to carry out fieldwork and identify and preserve plant and animal material. Further outcomes cover genetic diversity, the stress responses of cells, the effects of pollutants on organisms, the principles of evolution, biodiversity protection and the main environmental directions of the European Union. Graduates should be able to work independently in laboratories, read scientific literature critically and use information technology. The curriculum combines plant and animal anatomy, systematics, cytology, histology, chemistry, physics and mathematics with genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and physiology. Later semesters add ecology, hydrobiology, evolution, human ecology, instrumental methods in biology, fieldwork and environmental protection.
