Overview

The specialisation uses physics to study the universe at its most extreme, from the smallest to the largest scales, treating the universe as a laboratory for observing how physical laws behave under conditions of extreme temperature, pressure, magnetic field strength and gravity. Students learn to interpret that information using advanced telescopes and observatories, building a solid theoretical grounding spanning particle physics and astrophysics. Within the specialisation, students can focus on astrophysics, high energy physics, or an extended programme in mathematical or theoretical physics covering the theories and predictions behind experimental work.
