MA/MS in New Media Design

This Tilburg track, part of the MSc Communication and Information Sciences, looks at interactive technology and design through the lens of how people actually engage with new media. Students study the cognitive and psychological processes behind media use, including attention, memory, learning, motivation, and emotion, and investigate how specific design choices shape these effects. A second strand covers user experience design, looking at usability, engagement, sensory response, comfort, and a sense of control for the people using a product. The programme also examines how creative thinking works and how it can be encouraged, alongside emerging technologies and interactive storytelling techniques used to shape user experience and trigger particular psychological responses. Combining design practice with scientific insight, the track prepares graduates to develop and evaluate interactive media rather than relying on intuition alone, working across the boundary between technology, psychology, and design.
