MA/MS in Arts and Society

Utrecht's Arts and Society master's responds to a cultural sector being reshaped by technological change, urbanisation, economic globalisation, and an increasingly unpredictable political and social climate, affecting internationalisation, societal relevance, leadership, organisation, and everyday arts practice across Europe and beyond. The programme combines rigorous theoretical and research training with practical skills and close attention to the current state of the arts, media, and cultural sectors at both local and global levels. Students examine the tensions within existing mainstream culture and its relationship to a growing range of alternative cultural practices, alongside emerging models for how creative production and industry get organised, and the arts' growing part in debates around social justice. Students looking for further depth can also take up one of the university's interdisciplinary honours programmes alongside their studies.
