MA/MS in Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy

The programme focuses on new, interdisciplinary forms of theatre, dance and dramaturgy, examining how performance and choreography respond to current social developments and how that shapes new artistic forms, strategies and ways of storytelling. Taught entirely in English, it takes an academic approach to contemporary performance while training students to critically reflect on and write about these developments, and remains oriented toward practice through a focus on dramaturgy, a second-semester internship, and regular contact with practitioners in the field. Utrecht University works closely with the theatre and dance sector in the Netherlands and Flanders, and students seeking an extra challenge can take up one of the university's interdisciplinary honours programmes.
