Overview

The doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Beira Interior has no formal taught curriculum. It consists of a single thesis unit in mechanical engineering, spread over at least three years, with 60 ECTS each year. Candidates prepare for research on a topic in the field under the guidance of a department professor. The work is expected to produce original research, part of which should be published in selective national or international venues. The award is a doctorate in mechanical engineering, granted to candidates who earn 180 ECTS during the thesis and pass a public final examination before a specially formed jury. Entry is open to master's holders in mechanical or electromechanical engineering and to holders of related master's or five-year degrees, subject to course committee review.
