The PhD in Sociology under Doctoral Studies at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies covers faculty research interests spanning social inequality, racism and ethnicity, political sociology, socio-anthropological study of language and the arts, social diversity, and post-colonial studies, approached through critical analysis of the relationship between local and universal social forces. The program centers on Arab societies and their modern history while also examining their wider regional and global connections.
Candidates work toward original doctoral research that draws on multiple social-science and humanities disciplines rather than a single methodology, supported by program resources aimed at substantial dissertation-scale projects that add new, specialization-specific knowledge. The program positions its graduates to stay active in sociology scholarship across both the Arab world and the wider international environment.
