Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities

NTU's School of Humanities offers a PhD that prepares students for careers in research and teaching at universities. The six fields are Art History, Chinese, English, History, Philosophy, and Linguistics with Multilingual Studies, and research degrees are open in each. The school emphasises global, regional and comparative viewpoints, interdisciplinary approaches, cultural awareness and the relevance of contemporary Asia. Interdisciplinary clusters, among them Environmental Humanities and Medical Humanities, bring different disciplines together, though prospective students should choose the core discipline that fits their research best. Applicants need an undergraduate degree at Honours (Distinction) level or equivalent and the ability to research their proposed field. A GRE is not required. TOEFL or IELTS results are needed from applicants whose degree was not taught in English, with minimums of TOEFL iBT 105 and IELTS 7.0. Candidates are interviewed by the postgraduate coordinator for their subject area.
