Doctor of Philosophy in Physics

This four-year PhD in physics and applied physics is hosted by NTU's physics and applied physics division. Students take advanced courses and conduct research supervised by a faculty member, then write a scientific thesis and defend it in front of experts. A qualifying examination must be passed after one to two years. Admission depends on a faculty member agreeing to supervise, so prospective students should contact potential supervisors before they apply formally. Applicants need a science degree covering physics or an allied field with upper second class honours or better; a master's degree is optional. International applicants need GRE General Test or GATE scores, and non-native English speakers need TOEFL or IELTS scores; the school may arrange alternative tests where necessary. Applications run from October to January for August admission and from June to July for January admission.
