Infrastructure covers all the fixed facilities people depend on, such as buildings, bridges and harbours. In Suriname, new construction and the expansion of infrastructure are in constant development, with land allocation and new housing among the most common activities communities undertake; the programme engages with the design and renewal of structures and with identifying and solving infrastructural problems in ways that bring together the present and future needs of society.
Over the course of the bachelor's degree, students acquire the core skills of both construction and civil engineering. From the second year, they choose one of two specialisations: Civil Engineering, the applied science concerned with designing, constructing and maintaining structures fixed in the ground, or Building Engineering. The programme runs for 20 contact hours per week and holds NOVA accreditation.
