Program details

Overview

The Pharmacology PhD is a three-year research programme in which candidates pursue supervised investigation and prepare a thesis for examination. Students join the department's research community from the start, shaping a project with their supervisor and building specialist knowledge across the discipline. Alongside their laboratory or analytical work, students attend lectures and seminars and take part in skills development covering research methods, communication and professional practice. The programme suits applicants with relevant prior experience who want to undertake focused study under close guidance, and it introduces them to the research skills and specialist knowledge that doctoral work demands. Graduates typically move into academic and postdoctoral research, or into pharmaceutical and biomedical roles where advanced pharmacological expertise is valued and where the ability to design, run and interpret experiments independently is essential.
