BA/BS in Animal Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Animal Science prepares students for ranching, livestock production, extension work and other agricultural careers. It is also the major the department recommends for anyone planning to apply to veterinary school. Students learn through classroom study and in-depth work at the university ranch, covering marketing, reproduction, feeding, animal health, handling, evaluation and husbandry. A pre-veterinary medicine track is available within the degree options. Faculty are active in the ranching industry and teach current practices and trends. The department reports that graduates who finish the pre-vet path have been accepted to veterinary schools around the country and abroad. Typical employers include livestock operations, feedlots, county extension offices and the meat and food industry. Prospective students can find the degree plan, course descriptions, faculty profiles and contact details for the department on the program page, along with scholarship information.
