Overview

This bachelor's major in the food animal field is for students curious about meat and food production, product development and the commercial side of food. It suits people interested in inspection, safety, creative product ideas or sales. The curriculum ranges from animal products and the industry around them to food regulation, safety and microbiology, then continues into agricultural economics and marketing. Learning happens in a lab and market facilities that carry federal inspection on campus, and students also complete internships and attend national conferences. Graduates can look for work in product development, state and federal inspection, research, quality assurance, food safety and product marketing. The program is housed in the agriculture department, and students can see the degree plan and a sample four-year plan on the program page.
