AA/AS in Legal Support Services

Students in this ABA-approved legal studies track train for work alongside attorneys, earning either an associate of applied science degree or, for those who already hold a bachelor's degree, a post-baccalaureate certificate. Coursework builds speaking and writing ability, analytical thinking and problem solving, and every class folds in professional ethics. By the end, a graduate should be able to use legal vocabulary accurately, prepare legal documents, relate legal principles to a set of facts, research the law and spot ethical problems that arise in paralegal practice. Settings include law firms, government agencies and corporate legal departments, and the training also serves people planning to attend law school. Several residency and delivery rules apply. Some Legal Studies hours, including one required degree course, must be taken at the college itself, and a portion of specialty courses must be live and synchronous. Transfer credit is accepted only from ABA-approved institutions. Paralegals in Georgia work under a supervising attorney.
