Program details

Overview

The Mathematics Program serves three groups: students who major in the subject, students in the physical and social sciences who need mathematical tools, and any student curious about interesting mathematical ideas. Majors follow standard course requirements, yet these are balanced against each student's own interests through Bard's moderation process. Individual attention is a feature, with faculty available for discussion outside class, for tutorials and for independent study, and each major completes a Senior Project shaped around personal interests. Students can lean toward pure or applied mathematics. Those who intend to pursue a graduate degree in the field are encouraged to do so, while others who want to study mathematics without a mathematical career in mind are equally welcome in the program.
