This master's program offers advanced contemporary chemistry to students aiming at research-oriented careers, for example in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and materials. It builds on a base of chemical knowledge through advanced study of chemical and molecular sciences, with a strong laboratory research component.
Students are expected to plan, carry out, present and defend original research, to show command of their subject, to spot where ethical issues arise in the discipline, and to be capable of teaching and advocating for chemistry to undergraduates.
Eligibility for the degree requires thirty-two units. At least twenty come from academic coursework, equal to five courses of four units, four of which must sit at 600 level and up, and at least eight come from MA research courses. Students select other courses with their advisor according to their specialty. No foreign language is required.
