Overview
Chemistry is offered as a Bachelor of Science in a department shared with biochemistry within the School of Natural Sciences. Graduates can work as industrial or research chemists, create new classes of materials, or help develop pharmaceuticals, and many continue into medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, law, and teaching.
The American Chemical Society accredits the major. Canisius also lists pathways for chemistry students, including a four-plus-two option leading to a Syracuse master's in biomedical or chemical engineering and a six-year accelerated route toward an MD. Students can follow department news, take part in the yearly research symposium, and add chemistry as a minor if they study another discipline. Majors work in laboratories, learn instrumentation and quantitative reasoning, and benefit from close contact with department faculty, which supports both direct entry to industry and further study.
