Overview
Criminal Justice introduces students to judges and courts, policing, and prisons, and to the psychology behind criminal behavior and the mechanics of policymaking. Students trace how the American justice system developed, operates, and affects society, drawing on criminology, psychology, sociology, and anthropology.
The program frames this knowledge with attention to ethics, a worldwide outlook, diversity, and fairness, and it supports students who wish to continue to law school. Graduates aim for careers such as police officer, attorney, judge, forensic psychologist, social worker, or federal agent. The department hopes graduates will be both scholars and servant-leaders in their chosen work. It is offered through the School of Arts & Social Sciences and also as a minor. The major draws on several social science fields, so students leave with a broad view of how justice institutions work.
