BA/BS in Computer Science

Students learn to design and evaluate the software and connected systems that underlie daily digital life. The work alternates between concepts and application, using modern programming languages along with databases, networks and cloud platforms. Equipment set aside for computing and information technology majors supports class assignments and personal projects. Every major completes an internship, which offers a first look at software development as a profession. Most positions pay, and interns refine their interviewing, résumé and collaboration skills in a working environment. A good number are later offered permanent jobs by their host employers. The emphasis falls on problem solving, system design and flexibility, abilities that transfer to business, science, web and mobile development, and interactive systems. Pairing the degree with a minor or additional major in a science, in mathematics or in artificial intelligence can sharpen technical depth and expand job prospects.
