Program details

Overview

The biology major introduces students to living systems, from single cells to whole organisms. Students use the scientific method to design experiments, carry them out and interpret the results, starting hands-on research early in their studies. Facilities include research and analytical equipment on campus and the Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center, and some students study animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Faculty run their own research projects and involve students in the work. The degree supports careers in laboratory research and health sciences as well as graduate school. Students who combine biology with secondary education can complete the requirements for a science teaching license, and an optional minor can sharpen their focus. Prospective students can speak with an admission counselor to learn how the program fits their goals and what the next steps are.
