Accounting Assistant is a one-year technical diploma for people who like working with numbers and want to support an accounting team. Assistants keep timely, accurate records of daily transactions such as receivables, payables, payroll and inventory. Students learn to compile and report financial data using QuickBooks and spreadsheet software, set up and maintain records, analyze financial records, prepare monthly and year-end reports, handle payroll deposits and filings, and prepare tax returns for individuals and small businesses. Written, spoken and interpersonal communication is practiced too. The program uses the MyChoice delivery format in Eau Claire, starts in August and January, and forms part of a pathway toward the accounting associate degree. Students may be eligible for federal financial aid, and people with earlier work or classroom experience can ask about receiving credit for prior learning. The college also maintains agreements with other institutions so graduates can transfer credits if they continue their studies.
