MA/MS in Mathematics

The master's degree in mathematics is a flexible program in pure or applied mathematics that prepares graduates for jobs in schools, industry and government labs. Students shape their own coursework and build depth in one or more areas. Faculty come from applied mathematics, computation, statistics, finance and industrial modeling. Students can gain experience on real problems for outside clients through the Engineering and Computational Mathematics Clinic, and they join one of the larger mathematical communities in California via the Claremont consortium of mathematical sciences. Applicants are expected to hold a bachelor's degree in mathematics, ideally with earlier courses in calculus of several variables, analysis, ordinary and partial differential equations, matrix theory, functions of a complex variable, numerical computing and probability, which together prepare students for graduate-level work. The program has STEM designation for F-1 international students.
