MA/MS in Applied Mathematics

The MS in Computational and Applied Mathematics teaches analytical and numerical methods for modeling and solving quantitative problems. Coursework applies these tools to questions in climate research, economics, life sciences, and engineering. Training is organized around research and practical problem solving. The degree is designed for students who want to build strong analytical foundations for careers that depend on modeling. Faculty bring expertise in computational science, statistics, and industrial modeling, and they help students tackle intricate quantitative problems across fields. The program emphasizes clear communication of technical results so that graduates can lead work in teaching, industry, national laboratories, and technology firms. The program runs two years full time, with terms beginning in spring, summer, or fall. It requires 32 units and carries STEM designation.
