The doctoral program in Biological Sciences trains researchers in the biology of cells, molecular biology and biochemistry. Every student receives in-depth preparation in a chosen specialty and learns the methods needed for productive scholarship. Students spend most of their time on research in faculty-supervised laboratories, while also taking specialized courses, attending seminars and gaining teaching experience. Some faculty researchers are supported by federally funded projects, and the department works with academic, industry and government partners. Graduates are prepared for postdoctoral research or teaching positions and for careers in biotechnology and related industries.
