The Civil Engineering major at the Duffield College of Engineering prepares students for a profession focused on planning, designing, building, and operating the facilities people rely on each day. Topics include buildings, bridges, water systems, highways, and environmental protection. The program holds accreditation from ABET for its engineering standards.
Optional concentrations cover environmental engineering and fluid mechanics, as well as hydrology, water resources, smart cities, structural design, and transportation. Students may also follow a general course of study. Work in this field meets social needs through solutions that are economical, safe, sustainable, and environmentally sound. Students who choose a focus can combine it with the core curriculum to build a targeted technical background. Graduates therefore enter the field with a broad base and a chosen specialty.
