Program details

Overview

DePaul's Master of Science in Biological Sciences is aimed at people who are curious about how living systems work and who want graduate-level preparation. Some students enter to sharpen their teaching or research skills, while others use it as a stepping stone toward a doctorate. The program is organized around fifty quarter hours of graduate credit. Students begin with a seminar on being a graduate student, then work on shaping a research question and learning how to share scientific findings with different audiences. Progress is checked through a qualifying exam taken late in the first full year, and students need solid grades in their first-year graduate courses. Each person completes a thesis that grows out of hands-on laboratory work and sits a final exam. Assisting in undergraduate labs is recommended as extra experience.
