Overview

The Master of Science in Applied Statistics teaches students to construct statistical models and apply them to practical, real-world data. Study begins with the mathematical underpinnings of probability and statistics and moves into modern data analysis methods. The degree totals forty-eight quarter hours, made up of twenty-eight hours of required courses and twenty hours in a chosen concentration. Coursework regularly involves statistical software and computing techniques, so students gain experience with the tools analysts use. Graduates are expected to apply a mix of statistical and data analysis approaches to difficult questions, solve problems with attention to accuracy, and write clear reports. They also learn to talk through statistical ideas using proper terminology and to carry out models correctly.
