Program details

Overview

The Master of Social Work prepares students for clinical practice with individuals, families and communities. It teaches evidence-based practices and weaves trauma-informed care through the curriculum. Students can complete field practice at schools, hospitals and a range of agencies serving behavioral health, child welfare and substance abuse. Classes are small and taught by seasoned clinicians and researchers. The program is offered fully online, though students must complete a field placement in person. A school social worker track leads to approval as a Michigan school social worker. Applicants should review the application process on the program page and contact the program director with questions. The online format allows working professionals to study without attending campus classes. Students interested in school settings can add a short sequence of extra coursework and an internship in a school, with a faculty director available to discuss the options.
