Program details

Overview

This certificate pathway through Frederick Community College's Construction & Applied Technologies Institute trains students for beginning work in the electrical trade. Classes meet in lab space at the Monroe Center, where learners practice with the tools and materials used on real installations. The curriculum centers on wiring for homes and commercial buildings, the National Electrical Code, and safe working practices. Students also get a first look at data cabling, backup generators, fiber optics, and solar photovoltaic systems, which broadens the range of jobs they can pursue after finishing. Instructors bring field experience into the classroom. Completing the full set of courses earns a workforce training credential that records the skills gained, and graduates may be able to convert their work into academic credit if they continue toward a college degree later.
