Overview

Freed-Hardeman University offers a Bachelor of Arts with a major in History. Students move through the story of civilizations, reading evidence from different eras and cultures to understand how the past shaped the present. The degree is built from the university's liberal arts core, a block of history courses, and electives that include additional Bible study. Two tracks are available. One centers on research, and the other takes an interdisciplinary approach that draws on courses from several fields. Those who want to teach history can add the professional education courses needed for licensure. Coursework stresses careful analysis and clear writing. Learners practice weighing sources, building arguments, and applying what they find to real questions. Graduates carry these skills into careers such as law, education, and other work that rewards research and critical thought.
