Overview

The Ph.D. in Chemistry at Georgia Tech is a research degree built around multidisciplinary investigation. Research areas include nanochemistry, materials chemistry, bio-organic chemistry, biomolecular structure, and biophysics at the molecular level, as well as theoretical and computational chemistry. Doctoral work may also touch environmental chemistry, sensors, polymers, and the chemistry of light in photochemistry and photobiology. Candidates select a specialty and add to knowledge in it, often at the boundaries between chemistry and neighboring sciences. As a doctoral-level program at Georgia Tech, it is intended for students ready for extended research training. The institute's catalog entry gives the formal requirements, and applicants should read it carefully before applying. Georgia Tech publishes the full course listing in its online catalog, which is the place to confirm admission conditions, timelines, and any later changes to the curriculum.
