AA/AS in Electrical and Power Transmission Installers

Electricians set up and maintain the wiring behind power, lighting, communications and control equipment in houses, shops and factories. Grayson's electrical technology program teaches those skills on the Van Alstyne campus south of Denison. Students can move through two tiers of certificate, starting with residential work and then commercial work, and then apply that learning toward the applied associate degree. The labor market favors those with the widest range of abilities, and most electricians work full time, sometimes at night or on weekends. The college lists physical hazards of the trade, such as shocks, burns, cuts and falls, so students know what to expect. A secondary school diploma or equivalent is needed, and the degree adds state testing-readiness requirements.
