Overview
The outdoor leadership certificate trains students to guide groups in outdoor settings. Skill areas include backcountry travel, mountain biking, climbing on rock and ice, paddle sports, winter mountaineering and challenge courses.
Instruction is hands-on and mostly field-based, so students learn by doing. They develop leadership and collaboration skills and practise responding to emergencies in the field. Accreditation comes from a national experiential education association.
Its competencies meet nationally recognised adventure industry standards, and the certificate is designed for immediate entry into the workforce. Graduates can also continue to the related associate degree in adventure education if they wish to study further.
Prospective students can request information or begin an application from the program page, which also sets out degree requirements, learning outcomes, faculty and career outlook for the program.
