Program details

Overview

The doctoral program in Statistics is run by Harvard's Department of Statistics and housed in the university's graduate school for arts and sciences disciplines. It trains researchers to collect and analyze data, reason about uncertainty and build models of random phenomena. The department aims to produce statisticians who lead outside universities as well as inside them. Alumni have chosen work in medicine, finance, banking, technology, government and economic research, and the department describes its placement record as strong. Applicants apply through the graduate school. Harvard also offers statistics at the undergraduate level and through continuing education, but those are separate programs with their own application routes and are not covered by this entry. Prospective applicants should consult the graduate school for current admission steps and deadlines.
