Program details

Overview

The mathematics doctorate typically takes most students five or six years, and students are not admitted for a stand-alone master's degree. The department's faculty interests are unusually wide, with strong groups across several areas of mathematics. Students take an admission to candidacy exam early in their studies and defend a dissertation in the later years. Along the way, doctoral students can also pick up a special master's in computer science. The program is delivered in person at the Ithaca campus.
