PhD in Education, General

This doctorate is interdisciplinary and is based at the Graduate School of Education. It brings together insights from several scholarly fields and pairs them with skills in educational inquiry, policy and practice. Doctoral candidates train for work in universities, research bodies, policy roles and leadership positions aimed at raising the quality of learning in the United States and beyond. Candidates work with faculty across Harvard's graduate and professional schools on research that aims to reshape education practice and policy. Research at this level is expected to be original and to contribute to scholarly debate. Candidates pick a concentration from three options covering culture and institutions, education policy and evaluation, or human development and teaching. Degrees are granted through the Griffin school, which handles applications.
