BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering

This bachelor's degree is the undergraduate major of MIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering, known as Course 2. Students complete the General Institute Requirements together with a departmental program of required core subjects. The institute-wide requirements span science, humanities, arts and social sciences, restricted science and technology electives, and a laboratory subject. Some of these can be satisfied inside the major, because certain departmental subjects are accepted for the restricted elective and laboratory requirements, which lets students fit the major and the institute-wide requirements together. A swimming requirement and physical education courses are also part of the degree. Students select at least two major subjects marked communication-intensive to fulfill the communication requirement.
