AA/AS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

Students in the Criminal Justice associate of applied science track at McHenry County College learn how the justice system in the United States functions from arrest through sentencing. Coursework builds working knowledge of the terminology and ideas used to examine each stage of that process. The curriculum touches on ethics, reasoning under pressure, public policy scenarios, and the administrative duties inside justice agencies. Law is covered from two angles, the rules that define offenses and the rules that govern how cases are handled. Further classes look at courts, correctional settings, the study of crime, and policing carried out in partnership with neighborhoods. Some students use the degree to enter the field, while others use it as a stepping stone toward further study. Professionals who already work in justice-related jobs may also take it to move up. A published semester-by-semester layout assumes full-time enrollment, and the page lists a phone number for questions about the program.
