AA/AS in Plant Sciences

The Plant Science associate degree is built for students who plan to continue toward a bachelor's degree in fields like horticulture, botany, conservation, ecology, environmental science or forestry. It offers a transfer-focused alternative for horticulture students heading to a university. Instruction draws on the college's biology and chemistry laboratories, its greenhouse complex, and the many woody plants growing across the large West Windsor campus. Trips to regional gardens and natural areas, including the Pine Barrens, let students study specimens in the field. Graduates should be able to describe how plants grow and function, recognize insects, diseases and trees and shrubs common to the region, discuss environmental questions from local to global scales, and apply laboratory and field measurement methods. Biology and horticulture courses must be passed with a C or higher.
