Cert in Computer and Information Sciences, General

Mercer offers this certificate to people who have already completed a degree in math, science or engineering and now want to add programming ability. It is a way to turn earlier academic training into skills employers look for. It also meets many of the preparatory expectations that master's programs in computer science set for applicants from other disciplines. A separate associate degree option within the same subject area is designed for transfer. Students learn to apply the fundamentals of computing, including algorithms and software design, to real problems, draft specifications and build solutions that work reliably and can be maintained, draw on mathematics and science knowledge, and reflect on how software affects society. Progress depends on earning a C or higher in the core classes, which include programming, math and laboratory science.
