Overview
The Individual Interdisciplinary doctorate serves motivated students who want to combine several fields in one research plan but lack a ready path in an existing doctoral program. Work centers on problems rather than on a single discipline or technique.
Only a few candidates are accepted in a given year, and each is expected to arrive with a distinctive plan of study. Graduate research assistantships are available through state, commodity group and federal funding.
Because the program is small, students receive concentrated attention from faculty. They are seen as stronger candidates for grants, and they work with leading researchers in departments that rank near the top of the university for research spending.
Students present work at annual research seminars. The Graduate School uses rolling admissions and does not require the GRE.
