Overview

This graduate program is built for career changers and aspiring teachers who want a graduate degree plus Washington teacher certification in a single course of study. Students move through a cohort, taking evening classes on the Kirkland campus so that daytime hours stay free for student teaching placements. Full-time students can finish in ten months, while a part-time route stretches the work over two years. Field experience grows in stages, starting with classroom observation and moving toward full-time teaching under the guidance of an experienced mentor. Completers earn a Washington State Residency Teacher Certificate along with the Master in Teaching degree. Evening scheduling is meant to let students keep working or meet other commitments until they begin their placements. Prospective students should plan ahead, since cohorts begin once a year and applications are accepted for the next intake.
