BA/BS in Communication and Media Studies

The Communication major sits in the Department of Communication, Media and Design Arts at Pacific Lutheran University, part of the College of Professional Studies. It combines the study of communication theory with practical production work. Courses run much like labs, with students collaborating alongside faculty and community partners on podcasts, video, journalism, social media, and public speaking. Finished projects reach real audiences and become portfolio material, giving students professional-level experience before they graduate. Students choose a concentration in either Film and Media Studies or Strategic Communication. Coursework builds skills in creative production, teamwork, leadership, and the analysis of messages and cultural trends.
