BA/BS in Economics

The economics major teaches students to use deductive reasoning to explain and question how people interact in a changing world. It combines theoretical models with empirical knowledge across many topics. Students learn the core of economic thinking and then apply techniques to assess private and social decisions, while sharpening written, research and speaking abilities. The curriculum is flexible enough that many students double major, commonly pairing economics with political science, business administration, history, journalism or mathematics. A minor in economics requires thirty units and combines with any major. It prepares students for graduate work in public policy or business and for business careers. Upper-division classes have low student to faculty ratios, and the major offers options tied to different career goals.
