BA/BS in Computer Science

Pittsburg State University's computer science major teaches students to write programs, build algorithms and draw patterns from large data sets. The curriculum covers theory alongside applied programming, and students gain experience with Python, Java and C++. No prior coding background is expected. Small classes and close faculty support help newcomers get started, which makes the program approachable for students who are curious about software but have not yet written code. Graduates enter a broad set of roles, including software developer, data analyst, systems analyst, cybersecurity analyst, web developer, network administrator, machine learning engineer, game developer and IT consultant. The program is housed with mathematics and physics, and a degree map is available to help students plan their courses.
