The Department of Physics at Prairie View A&M University is based in the E. E. O'Banion Science Building and takes part in the Texas Physics Consortium, a group of Texas institutions that together deliver the Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.
The department works toward three broad goals. It gives students a firm grounding in physics for careers in fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, dentistry, engineering, the medical sciences, mathematics and teaching. It helps them learn to model the world, take measurements and understand natural phenomena. It also prepares graduates to pose and solve many kinds of problems while using available technology and reporting their results.
Students use research and instructional laboratories, benefit from a favorable student-to-faculty ratio, and receive mentoring from faculty who want each student to reach full potential. The department also points students to external resources on physics employment trends.
