This degree can be earned as a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science. The science route draws on biology, chemistry, physics and math, aimed at research or medicine, while the arts route leaves room for other interests, including public health, psychology and environmental studies.
Students work closely with faculty in small classes. Opportunities go beyond the textbook, from studying ecology in Belize to research with professors or internships. Sample courses include molecular and cellular biology, physiology from an evolutionary angle, and cancer biology. Future teachers can combine it with education coursework, and a six-year route leads to both the bachelor and a PharmD.
The program is offered on the Chicago campus, and Schaumburg for incoming transfer students. Entry is in fall or spring.
