MA/MS in Civil Engineering

Southern Illinois University Carbondale provides two master's pathways in civil engineering: an MS in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Both suit students looking to go beyond the bachelor's level. Graduate study centers on structural, environmental, geotechnical and water resources engineering, with advanced classes and chances to take part in research. The MS is research oriented and covers structural, environmental, geotechnical and hydraulic topics. Students complete at least thirty credit hours, with a mandatory thesis and a comprehensive oral examination. Eighteen of those hours must come from inside the School. The Master of Engineering is the second choice, which is a distinct degree with its own focus on civil and environmental topics, so applicants can pick the degree that fits their goals.
