MA/MS in Animal Sciences

The MS in Animal Science explores several disciplines, among them nutrition, reproductive physiology, biotechnology, and how animals grow and develop. Beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses and swine receive the most attention, although researchers sometimes work with other animals or with cell cultures as models. Students pick either a thesis route or a non-thesis route. The thesis route fits anyone planning doctoral study, because rigorous coursework and directed research prepare them for a PhD. The non-thesis route contains more classes and a tighter structure, which suits people heading into industry soon after graduation or seeking to move up where they already work. Learning happens in lecture rooms and also through everyday work with animals, from feeding to supervision and management, giving students practical experience alongside their academic study.
