BA/BS in American Sign Language

This on-campus major prepares students to serve Deaf communities fairly and well, rooted in social justice and fairness. Students develop communication skills in American Sign Language and a critical understanding of Deaf culture. Service learning is a central feature. Students collaborate with community organizations and schools serving Deaf people in Minnesota, and many extend that commitment through volunteer or internship work with agencies, theaters, and community and political groups, including international efforts. Graduates emerge as skilled ASL communicators, advocates, ethical thinkers, and dedicated allies who are well prepared to pursue professional credentials in the field. The program suits students who want a career built around advocacy and respect for Deaf communities.
